Self Catering Holiday Accommodation

What will usually be provided in your self-catering accommodation

The accommodation , whether a flat, old cottage or house will provide the basic equipment and furnishings for your stay. This will include seating in the lounge and dining area for the maximum number of people stated in the description. So if the holiday cottage description says sleeps 7 people then the accommodation will comply with this number. If there isn’t, for instance, seating in the lounge for 7 people then the description will be qualified i.e. it will state "only seating for 7". The kitchen should be equipped with pots and pans, crockery and utensils for the stated number and this should include not just the basics but wine glasses, tumblers etc., approximating what you have in your home. The beds will come with duvets and pillows but some descriptions will say that bed linen/towels are supplied either inclusive or supplied by request by a small payment. If bed linen/towels are not supplied then you will have to bring your own duvet covers, bottom bed sheets, pillowcases and tea/hand towels.

Arrival times and access to your cottage

Time has to be allowed for changeover and the changeover times are typically to arrive at/after 2pm and to vacate by 10am. Holiday cottages are increasingly turning to the use of a small key safe to hold the key, the key safe is usually positions by the front door of the holiday cottage, and the holidaymaker will be given the key safe code on the holiday directions information. This is great for self catering stays as the owner/caretaker of the accommodation may not live locally to the holiday house and so the key will be kept safe and easily accessible, even if the holidaymaker arrives in the middle of the night. The ideal of course is for the caretaker/owner to see the holidaymakers into the accommodation. Where the owner lives next door to the accommodation then this is convenient for meeting people when they arrive and welcoming them into the property. Also, the owner will be at hand if anything in the property needs seeing to.
